3-12-03: Caneyville Reservoir et environs
5 Bufflehead

6 Am Kestrels
3-13-03: Rough River State Park area
2 Red-shouldered Hawks(calling back and forth in Breck Co below dam)
3-14-03 W of Leitchfield along Hwy 54
14 Sandhill Cranes(ala Brainard)
These were in a short cropped pasture with cows nearby I pulled off into a
driveway to within 200 ft or less and they paid me no mind. I I think
they are becoming domesticated.
3-14-03
60 Black vultures(Shelbyville Ky)
3-16-03 10:15 Am
1 Great Horned Owl( in the hollow leading to Doralee's house, NW
Grayson Co).
This is a resident Owl. In past years we have seen two,
before sunup late Dec or early Jan sitting in tree tops, whooping
it up back and forth.
3-17-03 (my lane Short Creek)
7 White-throated sparrows
3-19-03 (my yard at Short Creek)
1 Brown Thrasher( first of the season)
3-20-03 RRSP
I got to see a Belted Kingfisher swoop down to the lake surface,
pick up a small fish, fly to a short utility pole , throw back his
head and gulp down the minnow.
3-23-03 Caneyville Reservoir
3 pairs of Woodducks
Also still seeing small flocks of
Dark-eyed Juncoes (through-out my birding area)
3-24-03 Caneyville Reservoir
1 Pied-billed Grebe(first of the season)
1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Also this date while in the Bowling Green area,I drove out to McElroy
and observed many, many species of waterfowl and wading birds about which
Dave has kept us so ably informed.
3-26-03 Caneyville Reservoir
1 Commoon Loon (in breeding plummage).
3 Northern Rough-winged Swallows
1 Tree swallow
I will forever be thrilled by the sight of a Loon in breeding plumage
whether it be in Grayson Co or Northern Waters.
