[birdky] Bee Rock, 5/24, Sw. Warbler

What a gorgeous day for birding--perfect temp, a few ticks, a few gnats. We had about 55 species at Bee Rock, particularly enjoying a Gray-Cheeked Thrush (singing!), a Spotted Sandpiper, and of course the highlight of the trip: Swainson's Warbler. The numbers were down for this warbler compared to other times I've been here; we only heard 2. But one of them hung around for 15 minutes, singing so loud it hurt my ears a bit, affording wonderful views. We couldn't have hoped for better cooperation. In fact, the bird outlasted us. We finally walked away while it was still singing loudly--perhaps it, uh, was happy with our company and wanted us not to leave! We had 13 warbler species, with only the Blackpoll as a clear migrant. It's been, I believe, a really good spring season (as usual). Tim (Richmond)
