[birdky] Barren Reservoir 14 February 2007

Snow Goose (8 in field w/ Cranes)
Canvasback
Ring-necked Duck
Redhead
Greater Scaup (2)
L Scaup
Goldeneye
H Merganser

Sandhill Crane
100+ Northbound
600-700 Vicinity of Narrows

These birds have been in the area for about 2 weeks
according to a local resident. The northbound birds
may have been migrating or just making a feeding trip
from this staging area. The cranes have been moving
around but have been spending time in fields along
South Lucas Road near the intersection with Narrows
Road. This area would be a good bet for anyone
wishing to spend time watching cranes in the near
future. There were at least 350-400 cranes feeding
together in one field. Although I saw only 2 cranes
in the fields yesterday, I did see many in the air in
this area so it may require some patience and looking
around to find them.

Tree Sparrow (Quarry Beach)

I also saw 2 groundhogs out today with air temps in
the 20s.
