I am looking for a reliable location for Barn Owl, preferably close to
Richmond. It is the only owl species other than Boreal Owl I need to
see in the eastern U.S. If anybody knows of a nesting pair I would
greatly appreciate coming out and seeing them.
If anyone has free time there is two Northern Hawk Owls and a few
Great Gray Owls up in the Sault St. Marie area of Michigan right now I
can give you directions to. It is about a 14 hour drive from
Lexington. They are real cripplers and I got 20 yard looks at both
species. On top of the owls, there is a large number of snowy owl,
northern shrikes, snow buntings, common and hoary redpolls, evening
and pine grosbeaks, both crossbills, and boreal chickadee in the area.
