[birdky] Ballard Report (No trumpeter/ Fish crow)

Tried for the trumpeters this afternoon but found the pond empty. Two
bufflehead were present on the pond just up the road. Spent the majority of my
time along Sallie Crice road scouting the 400 acre tract that borders the
refuge. This area was very recently under water and I spent a good deal of
time sloshing my way around. Several species of common waterfowl as well as a
few snipe are present along Sallie Crice road and at the back of the 400 acre
tract in the flooded fields. Wht-br nuthatches and all species of woodpeckers
were abundant on the area as well as several flocks of chickadees and Golden
cr-kinglets and a hermit thrush. Barred owls were especially vocal this
afternoon. Of note was a single FISH CROW heard calling with a flock of A.
crows that were feeding in the flooded fields in the back of the area. On
departing I observed a kettle of 17 turkey vultures and 3 black vultures high
over the area. Spent the remainder of my time along the feedlots and fields
around Oscar with nothing of note other than 87 wht-fronted geese and a flock
of about 50 cormorants. Waterfowl, snipe and killdeer continue in the fields
on Palmore Road.
