[birdky] Backyard sprinkler action

While many of you have the energy to brave the heat to check on shorebirds, I
am sticking close to home. To help my resident critters manage the long, hot
days, I've been running a sprinkler, very low, for several hours a day. This
morning I had fun watching the usuals (Brown Thrasher, catbird, towhees (many),
cardinals (very many), robin, titmouse, starling and Blue Jay) enjoying the
sprinkler. The best fun, however, was seeing a beautifully feathered Northern
Parula sitting on a low branch catching the waterdrops on his body. First he'd
turn one way, shake a little, then turn another way, and shake some more. He
did this for six or seven minutes, then flew a little way off to preen. It's
the first parula I've seen in a long time.

These guys don't seem to mind my spying on them!

Cheers,
Kathy Cohen
