I had a nice afternoon birding at the fish hatchery today. Today was the first day I've had free to go birding in weeks! I saw at least half a dozen Ospreys today. One of them was fishing in the Oxbow lake, swooping down over the water and attempting to grab fish. Another one was being harassed by a Bald Eagle that was trying to steal its fish. Unlike every other such encounter I've witnessed, the Osprey actually managed to get away from the eagle with its fish! Other notable birds: 2 Buffleheads 2 Red-breasted Mergansers 5 Wood Ducks 2 Double-crested Cormorants 1 Bonaparte's Gull (in breeding plumage--something I've not seen before at the hatchery) Dozens of Tree Swallows Barn and Northern Rough-winged Swallows 1 Green Heron Gerald H.
