[birdky] BKY-RPT: Mammoth Cave NP

May 2, 2004 KOS/Beckham Bird Club field trip report

Fourteen observers attended the field trip to Mammoth Cave National Park on
Sunday. I must say the morning rain made birding at times very difficult but
several warblers were observed near the lodge area. The dark clouds and rain
also made the birds less vocal and very few migrant songs were heard. By
mid-day the rain had stopped and the sun was shinning!

The highlights included:

21 species of warblers: Blue-winged,Tennessee, Nashville, Northern Parula,
Chestnut-sided, Cape May, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian,
Yellow-throated, Pine, Prairie, Palm, Blackpoll, Ovenbird, Northern
Waterthrush, La. Waterthrush, Kentucky, Common Yellowthroat, Hooded, and
Yellow-breasted Chat.

Osprey (1) flyover, Summer and Scarlet Tanagers, and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Thank you to all who attended the trip.
