Yesterday morning my one winter resident robin was busy scavenging the
remains of a dried persimmon on the driveway. I don't know how it has
managed to find anything to munch on with our freezing temperatures. Then
out of no where at least 100 robins plus a few waxwings descended on a
two-story holly tree full of berries. All of that activity and chatter
brought in another resident, the red-tail hawk who has sat patiently for
two days in a tree nearby ignoring the screeching jays that fly around its
beak. The mockingbird was beside himself because this was his tree,
and not a buffet for any hungry avian.
I don't know if the hawk took a robin, but the berries are sure gone!!
Also, heard and saw for the first time on my street an EC Dove. Normally
they are in another neighborhood about a mile away.
