Kayaking in the back creeks of Jonathan today I was jolted by the frequent
staccato of the White-eyed Vireo. They called at every bend.
A mother Wood Duck and 12 fresh hatched chicks speeded along the water in
front of my hot pink kayak. She was brave and never flew unlike the 10 or
so other males that scattered into the air before me. Another mother had 6
chicks, and she too stood her course.
I managed to cut down at least a dozen jug lines with hooks and also
witnessed two Nashville Warblers, one Catbird, one Osprey, three Purple
Martins and lots of Tree Swallows plus other usuals.
Seems to me that the Indigo Buntings and the Yellow-billed Cuckoos are
missing???
