I think Mary and I may have seen the same group that Pat and Jane reported.
Our count was 675 (maybe +/-50?).
We had scattered groups today, mostly 40-150 birds in each V. The first we
noticed was a group of 42 about 10 this morning.
Our running total for the day is 1,700+ cranes that we could see well enough
to count. I'm sure we missed groups, and we definitely heard groups that
were out of sight.
We also use the baby-monitor trick. (Running out of the house every time we
hear them, so it really is a running total.)
The biggest single group just went over in the fading light about 5:30.
Unable to count it systematically, but VERY rough estimate of 500 in that one
group, and at the same time I was hearing others (not included in the 1,700)
that were too low for me to see.
As I was about to click send, heard yet another group calling (5:50 pm or
so). Could not see them, though.

Sandhill Cranes are streaming over our home - app. 600 to 700 birds. Thank
goodness for the baby monitor on a cold day like this!
