I followed up on Scot's report from Mitchell Lake in Ballard Co. this
morning and found the following:
Least terns 10-15
Black terns 2
Snowy egrets 7-10
Great egrets 75
Little blue herons 4 immatures
Least sandpipers 17
L. yellowlegs 1
Pectoral sandpiper 1
Solitary sandpipers 2
Killdeer (many)
Wooducks 5
Ruddy duck 1 (don't know why this little guy was present?)
Mallards 10
Mississippi kites 2
Bald eagle 1 immature
Fish crow
And several hundred Canada geese. I read in the paper this
morning that about a 3,100 giant Canada geese had been relocated to
Mitchell Lake and other areas in BWM from areas that were over
populated in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. They were
"trucked"in. Imagine that scene!! Ballard is trying to reestablish
their geese for hunting as the past years have been down.
