[birdky] BKY: Birding on the Riverwalk in Louisville

On Thursday morning we headed for the Riverwalk in Shawnee Park. Dodging
raindrops (Oh, how glorious!) we checked to see what the storm and cold front
had brought to the area. Birds seemed to be everywhere once the rain stopped.
Palm warblers were there in abundance and our first yellow-rumped warblers of
the season made their appearance. They were feeding right on the path next to
the golf course. A beautiful wood thrush was searching for food along with
Swainson's and gray-ch. thrushes. A Veery rounded out our sighting of
thrushes. Rose-breasted grosbeaks were seen all along the path. Both species
of
tanagers were high in the trees still passing through our area. Fifty-three
species were seen in all including 13 species of warblers.

Today we returned to the Riverwalk and several new arrivals were seen. These
included blue-headed vireo, ruby-cr. kinglet, swamp sparrow, and a
white-thr. sparrow. Today we would encounter 15 species of warblers. It was
special to
see 3 ovenbirds together in a small willow tree. Other warbler highlights
were black-thr. blue, prairie, blue-winged, and yellow-throated. Our total
count for the day was 61 species.
