[birdky] BKY: Beckham Bird Club Birdathon - Distribution of Funds

On September 7 the Board of Directors of Beckham Bird Club distributed $7325
among the recipients of this year's birdathon. The club wishes to thank all
the people who contributed and help to make this a successful 2004 Birdathon.
Listed are the following organizations and the amount that they received.
1. Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission - $2000
Project -- Assist in purchase of 45 acres of mixed woods to expand Crooked
Creek Barrens State Nature Preserve in Lewis County. Preserve is home to
breeding population of Henslow's Sparrows and hoping to attract Lark Sparrows.
2. Kentucky Natural Lands Trust - $2000
Project -- Funds will go to the Pine Mountain Legacy Project to pay costs of
land acquisition. The KNLT is trying to connect protected forests to form a
migratory corridor from Virginia to Tennessee.
3. Beckham Bird Club - $375
Project -- Fund will be used to purchase slides of birds of Kentucky to
enable the Club to give educational presentations. The club would like to have
a
slide of every bird seen in Kentucky.
4. Jefferson County Memorial Forest - $450
Project -- Funds will be used to purchase materials to create an interactive
exhibit featuring the eggs of over 20 bird species. Students and visitors
would learn how to match eggs to birds and nests.
5. Kentucky Resources Council - $750
Project -- Funds will be used to support the KRC's conservation efforts
including advocacy, lobbying, public education on environmental issues.
6. Raptor Rehabilitation - $500
Project -- Funds will sponsor six raptor education programs reaching
approximately 300 students in Kentucky public schools.
7. Ky Conservation Committee $750
Project -- Funds will support lobbying of Kentucky Legislature on
environmental issues. The KCC is a coalition of environmental groups that
works to
educate the public and facilitate contact between citizens and lawmakers on
important environmental legislation.
8. Louisville Nature Center $500
Project -- Funds will be used to pay for field trips to the Nature Center for
100 students from underserved and underfunded schools in Louisville.
Students will learn about bird identification and the importance of habitat.
