[birdky] Aug. 7-8. W. KY observations

August 7. Fulton County.
Least terns. Three at the Hickman Port area. Counted 20 in less than 5
minutes, just east of Middle Bar in the Mississippi. Did not get close
enough to look at Middle Bar itself, but I suspect there are many, many more
in the area.

Little blue herons. Total of 55 counted in Fulton Co. Most were at Lake
#9.

Also: loggerhead shrike, fish crows, dickcissel, Mississippi kites, adult
and imm. bald eagles.

August 8. Sinclair Unit of Peabody WMA.

Henslow's and grasshopper sparrows. Beautiful imm. n. harrier. Bell's
vireo, blue grosbeaks. 13 Caspian terns on the ash basin below the steam
plant.

The steam pond itself is very overgrown and difficult to see. Found no
shorebirds there at all, and only two shorebirds (least sandpipers?) along
the ash basin shore.
