I drove from Henderson, through Evansville, and Mt. Vernon IN this
morning (4/17) to bird
Twin Swamps Preserve, and Hovey Lake. Both just west across the Ohio
River from Grassy Pond/Powells Lake Unit of Sloughs WMA.
Highlights:
First Greenback Heron of the year at Twin Swamps.
The Prothonatary warblers were abundant and everywhere.
Many Parulas at Twin Swamps.
Osprey at Hovey.
Hundreds of DC Cormorant.
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
White-eyed Vireo
Several Warbling Vireos.
Red-eyed Vireo.
Chipping sparrows.
Swamp sparrows.
On the way back to Henderson I stopped and checked the rookery north of
Audubon Park.
Great Blue Herons busy.
There appeared to be a Bald Eagle on the nest.
