Generally, the same set of birds continues to hang out at the 739 ponds with little indication of new fallout from all the rain. 7 shorebird species there yesterday - Lesser Yellow-legs, Least Sandpiper, Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, Killdeer, Common Snipe and 7 Semi-palmated Plovers. Also saw Blue-winged Teals, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes and Northern Shovelers. In the cottonwoods, a Yellow Warbler joined some Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers. Although these transient ponds get less than half the variety of McElroy on any given day, I penciled out that I can visit 739 15 times on the amount of gas for one trip to McElroy, and not get caught out in a storm either.
