[birdky] 165 Horned Grebes: Meldahl Dam

I thought I was doing pretty good by finding 10 Horned Grebes at A. J. Jolly
Park (Campbell Co.) this afternoon. This number was soon eclipsed by the 165
Horned Grebes I counted at my next stop, Meldahl Dam (Bracken Co.). The 10
at A.J. Jolly were all in winter plumage as were the majority of the Meldahl
grebes with about 10 or so in intermediate and summer plumage. There were also
a fair number of waterfowl including 260 Lesser Scaup, 25 Redheads, 8
Canvasbacks, 5 Ruddy Ducks, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 American Black Ducks,
30
Mallards and 5 Canada Geese. At a nearby farm pond in Pendelton Co. were 2
American Wigeons, and 1 Ring-necked Duck. Also at A.J. Jolly: 6 Great Blue
Herons, 20 Eastern Bluebirds, 6 Yellow-rumped Warblers.
