The much-needed rain has softened the soil and insects are emerging. We have
100s of swallows (martins, rough-winged) congregating and feeding on the flying
ants in our yard. An equally amazing sight is watching eastern
blue-birds feed on the wing.
The martins and rough-wings staging for their migration south makes me aware
that summer is waning.
