Hi,

Do you think it would be possible to use GCC4 as a default? As I

I don't claim to be an expert on GCC ABIs, but me too I understood
that this applies to C++ only.
But practically speaking, there is no Haiku-native gcc4 yet, whether
for a gcc2 bsaed image or a gcc4 based image. So as a native compiler
we only have gcc2 to choose from, unless someone knowledgeable about
GCC and its interactions with Haiku headers/environment steps up and
helps get it done.
On another matter, on the OpenBeOS mailing list a proposal on a
package description format for future binary Haiku Optional Packages
has been posted. Maybe you want to take a look and see if parts can
be
merged/aligned with your BePorts format.
What is the subject of this thread? Is that on the dev or the user ML?
openbeos@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - I can forward the message to you when I'm
home, its in the evergrowing distributions thread.
I'm not sure what you mean by BePorts format.
I meant your BepFile format, i.e. KEYWORD = "VALUE".
It's not about installer packages, just about the package description.
Whether it's binary or for automated patching or something else
shouldn't really matter, but Ingo is pretty much pushing this as a
means of getting copyright information of the binary Optional Packages
displayed in AboutSystem.
Regards,
Andreas
