With Stan Bentley's permission I am forwarding this post from Blueridge Birders along with his photos of a beautiful Western Tanager found near Roanoke. When we arrived about 9:30 am, the bird had just left and it was another hour and a half before it returned. But return it did and we got several good looks at this beautiful western species. I had seen the species in Colorado and a few other places but what a terrific experience to see it here in my native southwest Virginia.
