Hello Birders,
While the over all number of individual birds was down the five teams 
consisting of 13 counters had a good day of birding while conducting the 
Blackford Christmas Bird count in Russell County on New Years Day.  The 
counters enjoyed an excellent meal afterwards at the home of Jerry and Jane 
Thornhill a big thanks to them for their great hospitality and especially to 
Jane for the great tasting Gumbo and Red Beans and rice. What a way to finish 
off a great day with good friends.  There was 68 species seen with two new 
species added to the count this year.  The team of Jerry Thornhill and Dave 
Worley located a Great Egret, and the team of Roger Mayhorn, David Raines, and 
Don Carrier located a Winter Wren both species new to the count. Individuals 
participating in this years count are:  Tom and Laverne Hunter, Bob and Jean 
Montgomery, Peggy Herbert, Dave Worley, Jerry Thornhill, Ed Morgan, David 
Raines, Roger Mayhorn, Don Carrier, Bob Riggs and Mary Ann Spicer.  The 68
