Hi,
Describe online is good but it doesn't give an overall picture of where you
are going like a tactile map. In this case, the text and the map actually
achieve different things. The text is able to describe things in detail that
would be impossible on any kind of graphic, but the map gives you an overall
idea of where things actually are in relation to each other. I find it
really hard to remember all the East's and West's etc, but can easily
picture where something is on a tactile map. It just goes to show that
statements like text is best don't really help as different people work in
different ways. Text is very good, but so are graphics when we have access
to them. To have access to them means they must actually be understandable,
not simply a representation of what the print graphic was!
Cheers
Dave
