[bcab] Re: sky Plus Remote Record

Hi,

I, too, have just upgraded to Skyplus and am going through similar processes so
thought I'd detail experiences to date in case they're of any use!

Note that both of the following are after having registered via the Sky website
and having activated remote access from my Skyplus box.

 1. TEXT MESSAGING

The first two occasions I tried this, I received an immediate message saying
that my programme couldn't be found; this was because I'd left off the word
"omnibus" which is fair enough although the site does say that the software
will look for a fuzzy match, ie something similar to what you enter.
Obviously, though, having the principal word of the programme supplied isn't
enough! The third time I supplied the full title after realising what I'd done
and received no return message at all. As the previous error messages were
immediate, I assumed that this time I was successful and that the request was
in the system awaiting processing. However, I never received a confirmation
text and, indeed, the programme was not recorded.

Also, be aware that this is a potentially expensive way of remote recording
since it costs; from the site:

"SMS request confirmation message costs 25p (€0.50), Mobile network and
internet service provider charges apply."

 2. USING THE SKY SITE

I have had varying success with this irrespective of which screenreader I've
used, ie Window-Eyes 7.01, JAWS 9.0 or System Access 3.

When in your MySky account, if you choose the "TV Listings" link, there is a
"Screen Reader Version" link near the top of the page. This is great in terms
of presenting the programme details in a more usable manner; however, if you
then choose the "Remote Record" link for a given programme, you are told that
you need to be logged into your Sky account to be able to remote record. This
is even though you are already logged in!

I have written to Sky explaining the situation and asking them to fix this bug
(assuming that's what it is) but, to date, have had no reply.

If you don't choose the "Screen Reader Version" link, the listings are much
less user-friendly - they're usable but with a lot more effort. The first time
I tried this route, I was successful in selecting the "Remote Record" link and
the subsequent confirmation area on screen. However, since then, I haven't
been! The yes/no options don't show up as standard links or buttons and, so
far, I haven't been able to activate them with any known (by me, anyway)
screenreader methods, eg return key, mouse clicks.

These experiences have been recent, ie over the past five days and I am hoping
that the majority of issues I'm having are down to my lack of knowledge of how
to use the process properly but am not convinced this is the case as it looks
as though there are major design inadequacies in play; however, I'd love to be
proved wrong as this still looks like an excellent facility if it can be made
to work!

If you're able to get remote record working reliably (especially via the
website), please let me know how you managed it so that I can follow similar
procedures.

Subject: [bcab] sky Plus Remote Record

HI Folks. I have just upgraded to sky plus and was looking around the
website in order to find out how to use my mobile to record remotely but it
would seem that my phone model isn't compatible. I have the
N82 but it isn't listed as a compatible phone model. Does anyone else use
their N82 to record remotely?

  Cheers.
