[bcab] Re: scanners which is best system

Hi.

K1000 will work with Braille with a screen reader, though I don't think
it works without the screen reader - it will self voice.

Open book - not sure about Braille support direct or whether that is
through Jaws.

If you buy a new scanner, you should be able to use it with the laptop,
if you have enough USB ports. I doubt a scanner from the early ninety's
would work though, as many used cut down SCSI interfaces which were
implemented using a specific scanner SCSI card which was ISA.

The other option is to see if you can get an older PC from somewhere
with ISA slots in, and configure it with Dos and the Oscar system you
talked about.

Andrew.

Subject: [bcab] scanners which is best system

Hi all
Does Kurzweil 1000 scanner work ok for Braille users using power
Braille,
and jaws?
And also what about Openbook scanner.

Those of you that have used both, which is the better system for
Braille
users.

An old PC that I was using a scanning system called Oscar, has
failed.
So not only do I need new scanner, but need a new PC, as I am told
can't use scanner with my laptop.

Regards,
Derek
