    Hi David/all,
But will an rtf file keep original book pagination, which is most useful to
me at least, and will searches be possible?
                    Cheers,
                    Takis

I have seen this problem before, and it is a feature of the word
convertion routine used by abbeye. Try saving as RTF, and you may find it fixes
the problem.

        Hello John

I have scanned a large number of books using FineReader Pro 9 and this
has never happened saving as plain text. Recently I scanned a few (30 to 40)
saving as Word and found something like the problem you describe - it seems to
be if the page is not one single column of text, but text and a graphic of some
sort. It does not happen often.

I think the problem is to do with Abbyy's MS Word code, so a workaround
might be to save in another format.

You could see if the problem persists in a document after deleting most
of the other pages and re-reading. You would then end up with a very small
sample file which Abby tech support would be interested in and give you a
definite answer. E-mail it to me off-list and I will check through version 9 if
you like.

        Regards
        Tony

          Dear list friends,

Sometimes scanned pages of printed books appear on the screen as a
single vertical line of text. Jfw 10 reads the text normally, but when I press
the up arrow, instead of a line I get a single letter. Moreover, JfW tells me
there are new pages in rapid succession, so that there may be forty of these
odd pages for a single page of printed text.

I have tried to change this using the page set up, but this does not
seem to work. My family tell me that the little thumb prints of the scanned
pages as they appear on the screen appear normal, so the problem must lie in
the OCR stage, or in the way Word displays the results.

I am using Oprtic Book 3600 with ABBYY version 8 pro with office xp
pro.

Can anyone suggest the reason for this, and how I can prevent it?

          John
