tom I managed to get total recorder going. It would not work with the
software drivers but you can choose to record direct from sound card
instead. there may be other ways of doing this but haven't spent much time
playing with it. alt on its own doesn't bring up the menu bar but using alt
f for example will bring up the file menu. I would certainly suggest
downloading the trial and giving it a go.
Cheers
Graham

Hi Graham,
If you still have an advent 4211, I'd be interested if you find a way. I
never found a way to stop the internal mike from recording rather than the
sound from radio.

thanks David and others who commented on total recorder.
David I will have a look at cdex first and see if I can get this netbook to
record.

You can achieve this by using the free CDEX software. Simply go to the
tools menu and select record from analogue device. In the drop down menu for
imput device you simply select your sound card as the imput device.
I use this method often to record demostrations of Jaws interacting with
various applications and web pages on my desktop PC.
The only problem is that I cannot currently replicate this method of
recording from the sound card on my Netbook. This has reminded me to
investigate why this should be the case. It has probably got something to do
with sound properties in the Netbook control Panel.

David Griffith

Subject: [bcab] recording what you hear on a PC
Hi all.
I know that with my main desktop PC I can record what I hear. this is
useful for recording bbc programmes so I can keep them or recording bits of
other stuff. Probably technically not lawful but lets face it who hasn't
recorded something off the radio in the past? It's also useful for things
like recording a bit of someone's stream to give them an idea of what their
internet broadcast sounds like.
How can I do this on a PC with a sound card that does not have a record what
you hear feature? This is not available on my laptop or oon my netbook for
example.
I know at one time there was a application called Total Recorder. Is this
still available? Is this the best way of recording what you hear?
Regards
Graham
