[bcab] Re: ordering from argos

Hi Wendy. I have also used Argos in the past and found them good but the
ordering process just doesn't look as slick as that used by the supermarkets
such as Tesco, Ocado (Waitrose) and Sainsburys. You can say on what day you
want the delivery and whether it is morning or afternoon. They do not however
provide the ability to track your order you need to ring them for that and this
results in a long wait.

Of course, prices are very keen and this is perhaps one of the problems that
occurs as a result, particularly at christmas.

I found out eventually that the order had been "carried over" because there was
not time to deliver it. They say it will be here tomorrow but I MAY BE OUT IN
THE MORNING AND OUT MOST OF THE TIME DOING WORK IN THE RUN UP TO CHRISTMAS. A
person from Argos I spoke to said my account would be recredited with the cost
of delivery but no email has arrived confirming this.

I only mention these issues because I think it is yet another case of
advertising the service then pretending to be surprised by the level of TakeUP.
Still, after spending about 45 minutes on the phone to Argos and the currier,
the Home Delivery Network, I do now at last have a tracking number and a
website to get progress reports on.

Regards

Graham

  Hi Graham

I haven't recently bought anything from Argos, but in the past I have found
them very good. I was not aware that they offered specific delivery dates and
times, as I don't think this option came up when I was ordering before. It
does depend on what you are ordering, as some larger items have longer delivery
times, for example, furniture and white goods, so you do have to wait to hear
from them about a date for delivery. Small goods are usually delivered within
a couple of days, but you do have to watch the product details for stock
availability.

Sorry to hear you have had problems, and I hope you get the goods soon.

  Wendy

  Subject: [bcab] ordering from argos

  Hi all.
Has anyone else had any recent problems with Argos?
I ordered some products this week from Argos to be delivered today and was
able to choose a time between 1 o'clock and 6 o'clock this afternoon but the
  goods have not arrived.
on closer inspection of the email confirming the order there is no date for
delivery and it says if there is not a date someone will be in touch to arrange
  a time.
I am a little concerned that this can't all be done in real time online. If
you choose a delivery time then your orders should be delivered within that
time and you should get a considerable discount if they are not. After
placing my order I was advised that it had been passed to their team for
processing.
after waiting in a 25 minute queue to speak to someone on the phone I got
through to someone who said they would transfer me to the currier. The currier
of course has tracking numbers not argos numbers and the currier does not
know for sure when the parcel will be there. The guy I spoke to did give me a
tracking number. I am now on the phone to them again and if I get someone
trying to do the same thing I will ask to speak to a manager.

I suppose what I'm saying is be careful of argos and don't rely on them to
deliver when they say they will. Their ordering service is clearly
oversubscribed.
I suppose we are going to be told next that the company did not anticipate
the amount of orders that it would get.

while waiting On the phone there was a recorded message stating that some
areas of the country including Ipswitch and Gatwick had problems with delivery
of parcels and they would be there sometime in the
next 48 hours. Not good if you take the day off work specifically to collect
a parcel.
If they can't deliver when they say they will they may as well scrap the
delivery service altogether or else not quote a day an time on the site.

  Cheers
  Graham
