What have you got in the way of a spam filter at present? I have Cloudmark,
which isn't free but is not too costly. Have a look at:
http://www.cloudmark.com/
There are lots of other programs, of course, but I find this one very
accessible using JAWS 6.1.
Spam does seem to be increasing these days, and I am even getting some in
foreign languages which JAWS tries to translate. Anything Cloudmark thinks
is spam is put into a spam folder which you need to check from time to time.
All spam filters do sometimes get it wrong and put things you want into the
folder, but you can unblock them easily using the JAWS cursor.
You say this happened after you signed up to the Braille Chess account. Is
this a mailing list where you play chess with each other? If so, you can
put it in your safe list to be sure of getting their messages.
Forgive me if I have got the wrong end of the stick, but I am not a chess
player myself.

Subject: [bcab] need to upgrade spam protection
I recently signed up to the braille chess account on a pop 1 and 1 server,
and the first time it went to collect mail it downloaded an absolute ton of
spam and rubbish (more than 1000 messages worth). This morning when I
started up outlook express I got another spam message whereas up till now
I'd had practically none. How do I strengthen my anti-spam mechanisms?
