[bcab] need to upgrade spam protection

I recently signed up to the braille chess account on a pop 1 and 1 server, and 
the first time it went to collect mail it downloaded an absolute ton of spam 
and rubbish (more than 1000 messages worth). This morning when I started up 
outlook express I got another spam message whereas up till now I'd had 
practically none. How do I strengthen my anti-spam mechanisms?
