Thank you for your responses Steve.
On the outlook question, I have small hands and am too lazy to reach up for
f6.
Erica.
P.S. I'll try the dictionary manager thing

Erica,
On your original question, you want to press Insert + D to get the
dictionary manager. When I did this I got a new dictionary dialogue - accept
the offered name. Press the Add button and type the word "attachment" into
the Actual Word edit. Then use the Select Sound button to choose a sound. OK
the dialogue and close the dictionary manager, saving your settings.
On the one about the search box, I wonder if it's annoying because you use
Tab to get from the list box to the tree view, and have to get past the
three search controls on the way back? If so, you can use F6 instead of Tab.
Steve

What would make things significantly better is removing that idiot search
box.

Sorry to add to the "I Agree" messages, but I'm sure like me, many of
those with 20-20 vision will also agree. Indeed a former Microsoft
employee admitted recently that virtually nobody in their huge Reading
office liked Office 2007.

Outlook 2007 to me is very poor in terms of usability with screen
readers.
Just my £0.02 worth though.
