Hi,
In Outlook, you can import the PST file into your current email profile,
or you can attach the PST file to your profile (if you only want to get
specific info from it).
To do the first - importing the PST file, go to file | import and export
| import from another program | PST file, then follow the prompts.
To do the second, i.e, adding the data file to your profile, go to file
| data file management | add. If you are doing this it is best to have
the PST locally so it doesn't crash if the drive is unavailable.
I usually opt for option 2 and then move the stuff I want on the active
profile into the relevant folder in the active profile.
As for formatting, you can do this by right clicking (context) on the
drive letter and choosing Format, and following the prompt. The volume
label can be anything - it doesn't need to be there at all, the system
shouldn't be asking you for the volume label.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Subject: [bcab] help with formatting an external drive
The HDD on my lap top went caput a couple of weeks ago - possibly only a
registry error though.
I have replaced it and have put the old one into an I D E to U S B
converter
and been able to retrieve all the data from it.
I now have two problems:
Q1: when trying to format the drive through the command prompt, I am
asked
for a volume label. Several attempted answers have come up with an
error
message saying that it is invalid. What should I enter?
Q2: I have managed to retrieve a .pst file from which I would like to
extract some information.
How do I achieve this with Microsoft Outlook on the new configuration?
TIA
David
