Hi Leon,
I believe that Dolphin-UK issued a set of alternative Jaws like keystrokes for
the more recent versions of Hal and Supernova.
You will probably do best by contacting them rather than me trying to explain
since I don't use either.

hi Joe, you mentioned supernova/Hal, well the first one gives you combined
magnification and speech
which is very useful for people with low vision.
Purely on the speech side, and navigating complex web pages from the keyboard,
I don't think
anything beats Jaws. It has shortcuts for finding just about every type of
control or page element
that exists, and a number of great list utilities that can make accessing
information on web pages a
breeze.
Re: browsers I find Firefox the most usable browser, especially for RSS, with
IE6 having a slight
edge on IE7 for ease of use. e.g. with IE6, with one pres of the tab key from
the address bar you
are on the first link of any given page. And also in IE6 doing maintenance
tasks such as clearing
history & temporary internet files, takes less keystrokes, and there are no
multi-tabs, or phishing
filter etc to worry about, making it simpler.
Coming back to Hal, it can navigate most of the elements that Jaws can, but
some of the keyboard
shortcuts required to do so are not as user friendly as the Jaws ones, in my
view.
Of course it would help if more pages were more accessible in the first place!

Morning all.
I would like to hear from hal or supernova users to try and establish
how effective these screen readers are specifically on the world wide
web. Which version of IE, and or firefox work best with
hal/supernova. Are their sites which pose access issues which can be
successfully accessed using other access technologies?
Rather than burden the list with this, perhapse you might e-mail me
off list i'll leav it up to you.
Many thanks,
Joe Paton
