Hi Tris.
I do have SP3 on the laptop. The main problem I am having is that when I
choose to share a connection on the vista machine, I can also choose which
users I share with. The problem is I can't seem to find an option to share
with everyone on my network. This is certainly the case for files on the C
drive which contains both data and program files as when my PC arrived the disk
was not partitioned. I also have an external hard drive and for this device I
can choose to share it with everyone.
I can't quite see why this is, though certain parts of the Networking and
sharing centre in Vista seem not to be that accessible.
Cheers
Graham

The only problem I think is you have a laptop, You can Google around and find
legions of VISTA people trying to go back to XP not always not very
successfully. Ripping out a whole operating system would be a somewhat
disproportionate step to take in resolving networking issues. If you are
networking with an XP machine have you got service pack three installed on it,
it may help as that service pack contained infrastructure to communicate with
server 2008 which in effect is VISTA..

Subject: [bcab] go back to Windows XP?
Hi all.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop PC.
I am using it with Vista and, while it works OK, there really does seem to be
no doubt to me that Vista is not quite as quick as XP in some situations,
particularly when copying files. I am also having some difficulty getting
networking to work correctly.
I do have a spare copy of Windows XP Home and was wondering about downgrading
to this, after making sure that all motherboard and other component drivers can
be downloaded of course.
This PC has 3 GB of RAM. I have heard that XP will not recognise this much
RAM. is this case, and is this situation changed any with the introduction of
XP Service Pack 3?
Regards
Graham
