Hi Clive
.dat attachments are sent when you send an e-mail to someone using outlook
express and you have rtf (rich text format) as part of the outgoing e-mail.
The .dat attachment is a default setting which I haven't worked out how to
remove when you send rtf from/to outlook express. The .dat file should do no
harm but can be annoying.

Subject: [bcab] .dat attachments to emails
Hi all,
I noticed over the weekend that some of my own emails from home were coming
through with attachments. These had names like ATT5274638.dat (seven digit
seemingly random number in the filename). Please can anybody tell me what
they're for, and, if appropriate, how to stop them coming through. I noticed a
similar attachment on Eleanor's last message to the list too.
Thanks,
Clive
