Thanks everyone for your feedback and advice on the XP professional issue. I
can now confirm that
the person has bought a brand new fujitsu siemens laptop which came preloaded
with Vista, along with
a "Windows XP home SP3 OEM" edition CD at an add-on cost of £50. I checked
all the hardware
components for him and am going to do the back-zapping. All in all the thing
has cost less than
£400 with VAT and delivery, and as price was the biggest factor, upgrading to
Jaws professional was
simply not an option. At least this way he'll also be able to upgrade to
Vista in the future for
free - when he chooses to and not because he's been forced to.
The laptop was a bargain from PC world business clearance notebooks, at

All the best, Leon Gilbert

Hi All,
At the risk of making things more complicated than they really are, I'd
urge caution here. Check with your supplier before you order on the
basis of what people think is the situation.
My understanding, for what its worth, is that although the version of
JAWS you would get is the same irrespective of whether you order the
Professional version, the authorisation system means that you won't get
access to XP professional, unless you order JAWS professional. As I say
above, I'm as likely to be wrong as the next person, so why not ring a
supplier and ask them.
Regards,
Tim
