[bcab] Re: Windows Explorer in JAWS and Window-Eyes

Hi again Kevin,

I used the term JawsKey to indicate the key which is defined as the one
which accompanies Jaws keystrokes. This is the insert key on standard
keyboards but is usually set to the capslock key on laptop
configurations.

You may find that the Jaws manual uses insert as its standard term.

If you press insert or capslock which ever is the appropriate along with
the number 1 on the top row, you will be placed in a mode which causes
Jaws to speak the purpose of any keystrokes which you press thereafter.
You should hear the necessary information when pressing either numpad3
or pagedown along with the appropriate JawsKey.

Pressing JawsKey+1 on the top row a second time will bring Jaws out of
the key description mode and back in to normal use.

The status line is merely the bottom line of a window where, if you have
the status turned on in Windows explorer, a little more detail is
displayed about any file which is highlighted.

The status line can be turned on or off from the view menu where it
shows as a checked item when it is turned on. It is necessary to press
enter on the status item in the view menu in order to turn it on if Jaws
doesn't say that it is checked.

I hope this helps,

Hi Phil

Please can you explain:

If you have the status line checked, JawsKey+numpad3 on a standard
keyboard or JawsKey+pagedown will give you further file information.

I've tried to find this keystroke in the JAWS 9 manual, but I'm not
finding it at the moment. To which status line are you referring.

Many thanks.

Cheers

Hi Kevin,

A say-line which is JawsKey+numpad8 on a standard keyboard or
JawsKey+cursor up on a laptop will normally speak the whole line.

If you have the status line checked, JawsKey+numpad3 on a standard
keyboard or JawsKey+pagedown will give you further file information.

Subject: [bcab] Windows Explorer in JAWS and Window-Eyes

Hi

When I use Windows Explorer with Window-Eyes and check the Details
option in the View menu, Window-Eyes reads all the details pertaining to
that file or folder - time, date, file size, etc.

However, when I do this with JAWS, it only reads the file name.

I've tried using the Untruncate Columns option CTRL+NUM PAD PLUS, but
this doesn't seem to make any difference.

How can I get JAWS to read all the file information in Windows Explorer.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Kevin
