Hi,
Is that laptop using the preinstalled Windows, or did you do a new installation
of Windows on it? If yes, did you install the drivers from Toshiba, or have
you changed the drivers from Toshiba? What I am trying to say is, what made
the camera go into an unknown device in device manager?
There may be a driver you need for the camera as well as the software, or the
camera may be switched off in the BIOS, in which case, the unknown device could
be something else.
The Intel Inf utility will install chipset drivers and has nothing to do with
the camera, also installing that could cause further issues, if your board is
not using an Intel chipset, or Toshiba are using a customised chipset.
Did you get recovery disks with your machine? Toshiba often ship driver disks
as well as the recovery disks, there may be a webcam driver on that?
Thanks.
Andrew.

Subject: [bcab] Web Cam Nightmares
Hi.
wondering, what i can do.
ever since i have had my toshiba a 300 psa g4a laptop.
there is a unknown usb device, and not recognizing the web cam and the
microphone linked to it.
i have installed and uninstalled the camera software for the web cam.
and a friend sent me a intel chip set and the file was called
infinstal_auto.
and then got a word doc, how to edit the registry with the values in the usb
in regedit of ForceHCResetOnResume
but it did not work, and now still get a error saying the camera failed to
open, please start your camera or reboot the computer.
and get a unknown usb device.
short of getting a sighted friend to back to a external hard disk and doing
a system recovery, and not certain if this will fix it, cannot use the
camera, which is linked to the microphone.
and yes, if i get it sent away to be fixed, 1, over 100 kph away from where
i live in Devonport, Tasmania.
2. they said they would pick it up for me, and the service centre is at
Launcestan, Tasmania, if there are any aussies here on the list.
and then they did not mention a replacement machine for me to use, as could
be without my laptop and no internet for a few weeks, and cannot do without
it.
so, any other ideas, you can suggest to resolve this problem.
every time i try to use the skype test call service, and do a test, and try
to record, no sound.
and when i did try to play around with the microphone and was using a real
tech sound card, lost all my sound, and so had to have a sighted friend come
and get it back for me which he did.
so cannot use skype at the moment.
any one else run into these problems with a toshiba machine?
