[bcab] Vista: Access denied problems

Afternoon,
I've recently swapped over to Vista, and have run up against a
problem. Essentially, when I try to access folders within Windows Explorer,
I'm getting "Location not available. Access is denied" error messages. The
curious thing is that I've been able to access these folders previously.
An example folder is:
C:\Users\myname/Start Menu
I'm the only person who uses the machine. Previously, I'd disabled
UAC because I was fed up with all the confirmation messages that popped up
each time I wanted to do anything to a file on the computer.
I'm guessing my current problem stems back to that time though,
since I could access the above folder before I disabled UAC, but seemingly
not after. I've done the logical thing, and reenabled UAC, but strangely the
"Location is not available. Access is denied" errors persist.
Googling around throws up lots of similar posts, which suggest that
this error usually occurs when trying to access legacy folders from the XP
file structure. As far as I'm aware though, this folder isn't a junction
folder of the type they describe.
I've also found a few posts referring to invoking elevated status
through the command line. I'm a little hesitant to go mucking around with
things like that though, until I know a bit more about the OS in general.
If any Vista users out there can help unscramble this, I'd welcome
your help. Thanks.
Léonie.
