[bcab] Re: USING GUIDE WITH PAYPAL

Graham

I realised after I had sent my message that I was being a bit daft. If you
have Guide, what you have to use for browsing the net is Webbie, of course.
I have Webbie on my PC because I want all the other lovely accessible
programs Alasdair King adds to it. I tried using Webbie to access Paypal,
and it worked pretty well.

I think the person I was telling you about has made a bad move. He told me
he used to use HAL, but it no longer worked with XP, which I am not sure is
right, although I am not a HAL user. He bought Guide because he couldn't
afford a HAL upgrade. Again this surprises me, as I would have thought an
upgrade would have been a bit cheaper than buying Guide, which I agree is
expensive for what it does. I mentioned Webbie to him and pointed him to
the URL. He also said he has been using computers since 1985, so I would
have thought he would have had more sense.

Rather an odd story this one, and I am not going to take any further
interest, as I think this is someone who will go their own way whatever
advice they are offered.

Thanks anyway for your reply which, as always, is very clear and sensible.

Wendy

Hi Wendy.

Maybe someone here who has played with more recent versions of Guide can
give you more help but my understanding of Guide is that it has livited
ability to browse the web. ou can read up and down web pages but you have
no keystrokes for going to next heading, next frame, next editable text etc.

This really is a program for the novis user, someone who perhaps is rather
frightened of computers and really does not want to use one but who needs to

in order to write a basic letter, communicate by email and other relatively
simple tasks. It's one hell of an expensive package for what it does, but
in fact the market for a product like guide is limited and probably likely
to reduce over the years as more people become used to using computers..

Rather than the user struggling with Guide, he/she may want to try System
Access to Go.

Visit www.satogo.com and follow the instructions from there to download the
SAtogo screenreading program.

Regards

Graham
