  Hi Andrew,

If you want to fix the crackles and pops, do a search for Groove Mechanic.
It is completely accessible, and not expensive. I have had it for a couple of
years, and its noise reduction beats Sound Forge.

  All the best

  Steve

  Hi all,

This is my low tech way of solving the issue.

I have an Iriver MP3 player which records onto hard drive as well. What I do
is the following:

  1. Play the record or tape on the hifi and record the output to the
Iriver in MP3 format using the highest possible bitrate.

  2. I end up with one file containing the relevant side of the tape or
record.

  3. Copy the file onto the computer.

  4. Listen to the audio (skipping through it with Winamp) and noting
down the time when the tracks change.

  5. Input the data about the tracks into MP3 Slicer, this will then
split the MP3 file into sections based on the tracks.

This method has so far worked for around 10 records and around 5 cassettes.
We change the stylus regularly, and most of the records are in good condition.
I don't know enough about what to do to fix things on the record which aren't
right, for example, pops, or deviation in sound etc.

  Hope this helps.

  Andrew.

  Hi all,

I'd like to convert both vinyl and cassette to digital formats. All I was
asking in my most recent posts on the subject, was the physical size of the
Ion unit. The next thing I'dhave to do would be to get to grips with Goldwave,
Soundforge, Audacity, or whatever, but one thing at a time.

  Thanks,

  Clive

      Hi Clive,

I don't know the answer, but why not just use a regular stereo cassette
deck and plug it into the line input jack of your sound card? If you already
have one of these, it may be a cheaper option.

Then you could use Sound Forge, Studio Recorder, or Goldwave to do the
edits.

      All the best

      Steve

      Hi all,

does anybody out there know roughly how big this Ion USB tape deck is?

      Best,

The Ion Tape2PC USB deck comes with Ordacity for the PC and Mac and
also EZ Tape recording software for PC only. I know Ordacity for the
PC is accessible but I've never tried it to know how good it is. The
question is is EZ Tape accessible? I doubt there'll be any
accessibility issues with the hardware as you just plug it in without
        even needing to install drivers.

It may be helpful to try to find blind users of EZ Tape to see if it
is accessible. Either way Ordacity is accessible and users of that
can tell you how it stands on quality and usability.

        Just my thoughts

        Dean
