  Hi

  I'

Ve seen various things about similar things recently. There are aps to making
Google Android phones accessible starting to be developed and Apple have caught
on and are doing something with iPhone. There are a few other more vague things
I've heard about Nokia doing something that makes the touch screen vibrate as
if it has braille on or something, but I don't know any more than I've seen in
Google alerts.

  Cheers

  Dave

I did hear roomers of a project (I think in the Netherlands) to make touch
screens accessible. The VI user would be able to use the four corners of the
screen (one for back, one for forwards, one for enter etc). I am not sure if
this is being used for mobile phones but I think it may be being rolled out for
some ticket/cash machines over there. Next time I go I will try to get some
more information.

PS other thought! I think the idea was thought up in the 80s so someone owns
the rights to it but I am not sure who or how/if/when it is being used.

Sorry this is very vague but it is all the info I have. Perhaps some sort of
open source program could be created to sit between software layers to take the
screen layout and re-organize/adapt it for the VI user!

Wow, if they actually had software that would make a blackberry accessible
that would be wonderful. I am not into the touch screen phones all that much
but last blackberry I looked had the keyboard and was a nice looking phone.
What, if any info is out there on work for accessibility of these phones? Just
curious. Last time I had a phone sort of like what I want was a sampsung
blackjack but I had serious issues with windows mobile freezing up all the
time. Just something that is reliable and sterdy would be great. So far it's my
nokia 6682 but it's starting to get out of date and time for something better.

    Hi Sharon,

Some good ones to look at now, are the N79 and the N85. You may also like
the N96, though personally, I find it a bit chunky. It works fine with Talks
though. Also, if you like QWERTY keyboards, then the E71 may be one to look at.

    All the best

    Hi all,

Sorry this is slightly off topic.

I want to buy a new mobile handset. I use talks. Can anyone recommend a
newer model as I'm finding it difficult to work out which is the newest phone
as the lists I see have lots of phones which are now discontinued and numbers
are not any indication of their date of production.

    Regards

    Sharon
