Hello
Reading Tristram response, is it all a storm in a tea cup?
Please note that like many people on this list I grind my teeth with
frustration each time I have to invest money in a new version of JAWS which
usually does little to improve my daily interaction with my computer.
On the other hand, version 7 has been now out for a while and 7.1 is
available as a free download to those who have 7.0. I don't think that one
would expect Freedom Scientific to retrofit all previous versions to cope
with a major release like IE7 (it is probably not just a matter of scripts).
Users do not have, as described in a previous email on this list to upgrade
to IE7 if they do not wish to do so. FS should fix however any remaining
glitches with a 7.2 free release if necessary.
Please note that I do not refer in this email to any screenreader wars, just
to JAWS.
Regards
Isaac

Jaws 7.10 is free to all Jaws 7.0 users and will work with IE7 already
pre-dating Dolphin's retro-fit. There are some minor key cleash problems
but these can be resolved as and where they occur if need be. There have
actually been positive user positings on the Jaws-UK mail list with regard
to this.
Jaws 7.10 can be downloaded from:

I don't suppose it will happen but it would be good if Freedom Scientific
produced scripts for JFW users earlier than JAWS 7 to download so that we
could run the new version of Internet Explorer. If Dolphin can do it, surely
Freedom Scientific can also. I can understand the need for installing a
higher version of JAWS when Vista comes along but Internet Explorer isn't a
new operating system, it is a key part of most people's computer use and it
would be an indication to JAWS users that Freedom Scientific really care
about their customers.

[bcab] The gen on the IE7 automatic update
Hi,
Here is information I have gathered from speaking to MS personell regarding
the IE7 update on Wednesday:
1. The update is delivered through automatic updates, but you are given the
option to install it or to stop the installation - only users in the
administrators group will have the option of installation.
2. If you are in a company and they use the automatic update server like I
do at work, the update is delivered in the rollup category, which we don't
subscribe to anyway.
3. There is a block tool available to stop IE being downloaded if you are
really paranoid (its basically for administrators who don't use WSUS and
don't have control over their users) available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4516A6F7-5D44-482B-
9DBD-869B4A90159C
<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4516A6F7-5D44-482B
-9DBD-869B4A90159C&displaylang=en> &displaylang=en
I recommend that JFW users just say no to the installation screen, do not
disable automatic updates as you wouldn't get other critical updates
downloaded - once you say no, you won't be prompted again - you will
manually download the update as and when a fix to JFW is available.
FWIW here at work there are other products that don't work with IE7,
relating to BACS/DD submissions over HTTP etc, so we won't be rolling it out
yet.
Andrew.
