I rather suspect that if they do an update every six weeks, it will mainly
be new and updated script files most of the time, rather than extensive new
features, but that's what I've heard.
Cheers

Hmm, That doesn't sound good.
If there planning to do a software iteration every 6 weeks which they
release to the user community it sounds a little risky. I'm a software
engineer and we use a similar system of 6 week iterations however that's
every 6 weeks we send it out to the test team. They maybe release one
every 3 iterations to the user community. Now either FS are putting a
lot of trust in there developers and shortening the test phase of the
cycle or there's not going to be that much difference between the
iterations.
In my view this is not a good way to go for something that so many
people depend on. But then again I suppose that it does go along with FS
policy of having open beta testing which as a developer isn't a good
thing at all.
Cheers.
Nick.

I hear that from the release of JFW v8 there will be an update about
every 6 weeks. It will be interesting to see what effect this has on the
frequency of new versions.

I don't suppose it will happen but it would be good if Freedom
Scientific produced scripts for JFW users earlier than JAWS 7 to
download so that we could run the new version of Internet Explorer. If
Dolphin can do it, surely Freedom Scientific can also. I can understand
the need for installing a higher version of JAWS when Vista comes along
but Internet Explorer isn't a new operating system, it is a key part of
most people's computer use and it would be an indication to JAWS users
that Freedom Scientific really care about their customers.

[bcab] The gen on the IE7 automatic update
Hi,
Here is information I have gathered from speaking to MS
personell regarding the IE7 update on Wednesday:
1. The update is delivered through automatic updates, but you
are given the option to install it or to stop the installation - only
users in the administrators group will have the option of installation.
2. If you are in a company and they use the automatic update
server like I do at work, the update is delivered in the rollup
category, which we don't subscribe to anyway.
3. There is a block tool available to stop IE being downloaded
if you are really paranoid (its basically for administrators who don't
use WSUS and don't have control over their users) available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4516A6F7-5D44-4
82B-9DBD-869B4A90159C&displaylang=en
<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4516A6F7-5D44-
482B-9DBD-869B4A90159C&displaylang=en>
I recommend that JFW users just say no to the installation
screen, do not disable automatic updates as you wouldn't get other
critical updates downloaded - once you say no, you won't be prompted
again - you will manually download the update as and when a fix to JFW
is available.
FWIW here at work there are other products that don't work with
IE7, relating to BACS/DD submissions over HTTP etc, so we won't be
rolling it out yet.
Andrew.
