Alan and Carol,
I've not come across text boxes in Excel but I can explain
how t select a text box in Word. I imagine it could be the
same method but cannot guarantee it so try this if you like.
1. Make sure the Drawing Tool Bar is checked (Alt+V,
Down arrow to TTool Bars submenu, Enter, select Drawing and
press Enter)
2. Press the Alt key, Press Control+Tab until you reach
Drawing.
3. Right arrow once and JAWS should announce "Select
Text Box" or something similar.
4. Press Control and Enter at the same time and this
will select the Text Box, JAWS should say "Selected"
5. Press Enter again to go into the text box and you
should be able to read the contents of the box with the
arrow keys.
6. Press the Esc key once to come out of the box. At
this point, if you want to delete the box press the delete
key. If you don't want to delete the box, press the Esc key
again
If you want to select the box at another time, repeat steps
1 to 4.
As I said, this works in Word so its upt to you if you want
to give it a go.
HTH

Subject: [bcab] Text Boxes in Excel
Hi List,
I am using JAWS 8, office 2003 and XP Pro.
When I opened a spreadsheet , JAWS did not report that there
was a text box with information in it. Can anyone suggest
what I can do (if anything) to get JAWS to identify the
presence of a text box and read out its contents. A
colleague told me that the text box was not associated with
any particular cell and I suppose must be overlaid on a
portion of the spreadsheet.
Thanks
Alan
