Hello All

With all respect, I found the email from Nigel below offensive. First some
facts:

TNAUK is a small charity of about 30 dedicated employees and many volunteers
most of whom read newspapers and magazines for the audio service (tape, CD
and Daisy). Other volunteers such as myself are involved in technical
matters of the e-text service and others look after various aspects of
administration.

TNEL is a small commercial arm of the charity which provides audio and text
services to companies and its profits help to keep the charity going (their
contribution is a very small portion of TNAUK budget).

The revenue from our subscribers is only about 40% of our total budget. The
rest is made up from donations from organizations and individuals.

For the e-text service a subscriber pays £40 per annum for an unlimited
number of publications (there are about 85 different e-text newspapers and
magazines). This subscription is a tiny fraction of what you would have to
pay for a hard copy of these magazines - a very good deal!

This service is made possible by the publishers generously allowing (and in
most cases supplying) the charity to use these publications free of charge
on the condition that they are for the sole use of blind and visually
impaired subscribers and cannot be shared.

Can we police this? It is very difficult and we rely on the integrity of our
subscribers.

Balancing the charity's books is always difficult and subscriptions are
important for the charity's survival. Besides the important copyright
issues, in the real world if people shares files there are likely to be less
subscribers and the charity may not survive. Then there will be nothing to
moan about as this unique service will be lost.

Derek,
The difference is RNIB is a charity. TNAUK is a company trying to make
money and they can't do that if people share information's.

Nigel
Liars and cut purses all of them!
