Re your points:
Messages coming into multiple folders.
This would appear to indicate you have a set of rules copying messages to
folders instead of moving the messages.
Try disabling the rules for a while and see if this stops multiple copies of
the messages appearing.
If that sorts the problem correct the rules so that they move messages to
the required folders. When you sort the rule you can force it to act on the
messages currently in your Inbox and move the messages where you want them
to go.
Messages appearing on only one machine
Most ISP systems are set so that when you pop messages they are deleted from
the server. This means that when you download a message to your laptop it is
not there for you to download it to your desktop machine. If you were using
Outlook instead of Outlook Express you could synchronise your folders so
that you always had the same messages on both machines but I don't think you
can do that with Outlook Express.
If you have not received any messages are you able to check what messages
are on your ISP server. I have a BT Yahoo account and I can go to the web
site and check the messages on the server. Sometimes I find that messages
have gone into the 'junk' folder on the server so I need to retrieve them.
This can happen if the 'spam filter' decides that something in the message
is spam and decides that I shouldn't see the message.
Microsoft Warning message
This means that for some reason one of your programmes is not working
correctly and is crashing. The operating system claims to generate a report
that it can send to Microsoft. The idea is that Microsoft will use this to
try and resolve bugs in future versions of the programme. Personally, I
always hit the 'don't send' button, I don't find the reports of any use to
me and I don't like to send information to any company unless I really have
to.
If the error message is telling you that Outlook Express is the problem then
perhaps you need to re-install Outlook Express. This could in any way give
you the opportunity to start with a fresh programme and see if this resolves
your issues. You are able to export all of your addresses and messages from
your current version of Outlook Express before re-installing a new version.
New ISP
I wonder if it is wise to think about changing your ISP while you appear to
have so many issues with your email at the moment? You may have valid
reasons for switching but think about sorting out one problem before moving
onto another.
Kurzweil
In one of your earlier messages I noticed that you printed out messages then
scanned them into Kurzweil. You could save a few trees by simply cutting the
messages and pasting them into an open Kurzweil file. You would also not
have any problems with OCR errors.
List moderator
Technically the list is not moderated, it is monitored. If things get out of
hand somebody appointed by the Board of BCAB will intervene to try and get
things back on an even keel.
If you wish to discuss anything about the list then use the link at the foot
of every message.
I would not normally include this following comment on the main list but I
must insist that you stop taking swipes at Tink in your messages. If for
whatever reason you have an issue with Tink it is not appropriate for it to
be aired on this list.
Yours sincerely,
