[bcab] Re: Software help

Stuart,

This sounds promising.

What is on the dialog that says the restoration has completed?

An OK button, Restart button, additional buttons/controls?

I'm trying to establish a if say a blind person left this restoration bit
longer than twenty minutes, lets say 30 mins to 45 mins to attempt to prevent
someone mucking up their PC by hitting return on a Cancel button. We might
have a solution hat whilst there's no speech output at that final stage you
could leave it for a suggested amount of time to allow for various factors none
the least of these being system speed. Said blind person could listen for disk
activity and hearing none presume the process has completed.

Barry.

Barry

I have a little sight so use a mouse and ZT8 with speech as far as restoration
without sight I can't really say yes with conviction but it does speak to me up
to the actual restoration process. When you ask Acronis to restore it tells me
it needs to reboot = 1 click I then walk away and leave it to do its job. After
about 20 mins there's a dialog box which tells me the restore was successful at
this point there is no speech.

If this is not clear get back to me and I'll explain

Regards
Stuart

Stuart,

Can you invoke the restoration without sight? EG. In Windows with speech
running and it will auto-reboot and finish the job, coming back up into the
restored image?

I have used Acronis version 10 and it works, its really easy to use and will
create a system backup in about half and hour to an hour depending on your hard
drive size; it also does incremental backups as well. The best thing of all is
the restore feature it restores your system completely, with a couple of clicks
with the mouse, ready for user to use. I don't know about Windows 98, I use it
with XP home.

Help this helps

Subject: [bcab] Software help

Hi All,

For the first time ever in living memory, a question to the list has gone
entirely unanswered for a whole day. I thought maybe the subject-line might
have looked uninteresting, so have changed it in hopes that somebody might have
some thoughts.

My main question is: what is the best software to use to make an image of a
hard disk, in order to keep all system files, registry and
so-on intact? The one I know about is Norton Ghost, but I remember
there were doubts about accessibility, so any other contenders?

As a supplementary point I really need it to run under Windows 98, so would
either need 98 support, or an older version.

Can anyone help with this please?? Pretty please???

Best,

Peter
