[bcab] Re: Software help

Hello Peter

Like Tom I use Image for Windows.

As with all imaging software, the tricky bit as far as accessibility is
concerned, is to restore the image in case of Hard drive failure; you have
to be outside the Windows OS (usually DOS) to restore the full image.

If you back up to a CD apparently there is a simple sequence to follow that
you can use to restore, some blind people do this without assistance.

I am backing up to a USB drive and in the rare event that the hard drive
fails will use sighted help to restore.

The process of backing up is fully accessible. Also if you want to restore
individual folder or files you do this within Windows OS and it is very
accessible.

So to summarize, the only inaccessible part (because it is done from a DOS
environment) is restoring the full image.

Not sure if the software works with Windows 98.

Regards
Isaac

Hi Peter,

Must have missed your last subject!

I like Terabyte, image for windows. £24 and dead easy to use. You can back
up the lot to an external hard drive. Not sure about older windows versions.

Subject: [bcab] Software help

Hi All,

For the first time ever in living memory, a question to the list has gone
entirely unanswered for a whole day. I thought maybe the subject-line might
have looked uninteresting, so have changed it in hopes that somebody might
have some thoughts.

My main question is: what is the best software to use to make an image of a
hard disk, in order to keep all system files, registry and
so-on intact? The one I know about is Norton Ghost, but I remember
there were doubts about accessibility, so any other contenders?

As a supplementary point I really need it to run under Windows 98, so would
either need 98 support, or an older version.

Can anyone help with this please?? Pretty please???

Best,

Peter
