Hi Steve: I recently gotten hold of an ice-drive with security features
that might suit what you're looking for - when you plug it in it appears
in your list of drives as 2 separate drives, so in my case both my e:
and f: drives. One is secure and one not. The two drives together add
up the the overall capacity of the USB drive but you can manually adjust
the relative size of the secure and unsecure areas. The security
features are managed via a small exectutible that sits in the unsecured
drive and although I haven't used it extensively it looks pretty
screenreader friendly, you can for example use it to set, disable, enter
passwords, adjust the relative sizes of the 2 drives and so an. In the
same way you described, if a incorrect password is entered too often the
data on the secure area of the drive is destroyed, I haven't tested if
it is possible with a screenreader to see how many attempts you have
remaining or if you are warned that you are approaching the limit and
the consequences of this.
I can send you the manual for the drive off list if you are interested.

Subject: [bcab] Secure/private flash drive
I'm trying to identify a pen drive that comes with privacy software, so
that you can set up a password without which the pen drive contents
cannot be accessed. I've come across a few of these, but none which
don't have greater or lesser issues when it comes to keyboard use. I'm
wondering if anyone has any thoughts about a good candidate for further
testing?
Please note that this needs to be software that lives on the pen drive;
I'm not looking for something like TrueCrypt that allows you to encrypt
information and then place it on the drive.
If anyone is a guru on these devices, I've looked at the Kingston Data
Traveller Secure Privacy Flash Drive and thought it was very nice except
that some of the features aren't accessible with the keyboard. If I
could come up with something like that, but fully keyboard accessible,
I'd be happy.
Cheers,
Steve
